What Is a Telehealth Visit?
Telehealth is a secure video visit with Dr. Chudik’s team from your phone, tablet, or computer.
New patients can discuss their shoulder, knee, or sports injury and receive professional advice and care, which may include a working diagnosis; reassurance and explanation; recommendations for simple conservative treatment or physical therapy; a prescription for medication; an order for MRI; and/or fast‑tracked access to an in‑person appointment with Dr. Chudik.
Telehealth Visits Available
Telehealth is designed primarily for patients with new shoulder, knee, or sports injuries.
Telehealth FAQs
1. What does a telehealth visit cost?
Telehealth visits are billed to your private health insurance. Visit costs vary based on your insurance plan. Check with your insurance to see what’s covered.
2. How do I join my telehealth appointment?
After scheduling online, by phone, or by email, you’ll be contacted by the office to confirm your insurance information and appointment date and time.
A secure link will be sent via text or email 30 minutes before your visit.
3. What equipment do I need?
You only need:
- A smartphone, tablet, or computer with camera and microphone
- A good internet connection
- A quiet, private, well‑lit space where you can focus on the visit. We have done many visits while patients are in the car.
- It is preferred to be in a space where you can safely and privately discuss and physically demonstrate aspects of your condition.
4. Can you really evaluate my shoulder or knee over video as a new patient?
Yes, from the history of your condition and some simple physical exam findings that can be taken from a virtual visit, Dr. Chudik’s team can provide a working diagnosis, professional advice, reassurance and explanations, recommendations for a simple conservative treatment or physical therapy, prescription for medication, an order for an MRI, and/or fast-tracked access to an in-person appointment with Dr. Chudik.
5. What if telehealth isn’t appropriate for my condition?
Telehealth visits are appropriate and can be helpful for all but life-threatening or limb-threatening conditions that should call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room. At the very least, they can provide helpful advice to start treatment, an order for necessary imaging, or quicker access to an in-person office visit with Dr. Chudik or a doctor of a more appropriate specialty.
6. What if I end up needing surgery, imaging, injections, or bracing?
Telehealth is the first step in your care. If surgery, imaging, injections, physical therapy or hands‑on evaluation are needed, the telehealth visit will help triage the concern and fast-track the process of coordinating everything you need whether it’s imaging or an in‑person visit with Dr. Chudik.
7. How do I get ready for my telehealth visit?
- Find a quiet space where you will not be interrupted
- Join the visit a few minutes early to test audio and video capabilities
8. Do I need X‑rays or an MRI before my telehealth visit?
No. As a new patient, the telehealth visit helps decide if and when you need X‑rays or an MRI. If imaging is needed, the team will set up an in‑person visit at a convenient location.
9. What if I’m not in Illinois?
Depending on your insurance plan, telehealth may or may not be covered. If insurance does not cover telehealth service, self‑pay rates are also available so you can still be seen.
10. Ready to Start Your Telehealth Visit?
If you are a patient with a new shoulder, knee or sports injury, you can start with a telehealth visit and know your next steps before you ever leave home.
